CenterForce is a non-profit agency that has been located in Pierce County for over 30 years. It was started by parents of disabled children back in 1968. CenterForce provides training and employment for people with disabilities. Their services include job placement out in the community, support in seeking participation in community activities, and employment located in CenterForce's own workshop.

This project provided a desparately needed facility for CenterForce, which had out-grown their old facility. In order to help their dreams to be realized, Douglas Shinstine searched for and purchased land for the new facility, constructed the project, and leased the building to CenterForce until enough funds were raised for CenterForce to purchase the building. Doug is now on their board of directors.

This building totals 15,000 square feet with a 4,000 square foot second level. The lower level has a CMU brick structure; the upper level is wood framed. The building was designed to allow for easy access and use of all areas by the diabled.

After 3,302 hours of accident free construction, the project was completed in June of 1998. Since that time CenterForce has become the number one agency in Pierce County for the provision of training and employment for people with disabilities.
